OzHarvest partners with Winnow to fight food waste in Australia

OzHarvest’s newly launched innovation arm, ForPurposeCo joins forces with Winnow to bring our innovative food waste reduction technology to the Australian and New Zealand hospitality industry.

OzHarvest is Australia and New Zealand’s leading food rescue organization. They collect quality excess food from commercial places and deliver it directly to more than 1000 charities supporting people in need. Founded in 2004, OzHarvest now rescues over 100 tonnes of food each week from over 3,000 food donors.

Meanwhile, ForPurposeCo. is a recently launched “profit-for-purpose” social enterprise that exists to increase funding for OzHarvest. They invest in new technology, products and services that are aligned with OzHarvest values and have proven success in the global market.

Winnow recently joined forces with ForPurposeCo to reduce food waste in Australia and New Zealand. With operations in more than 30 countries, our digital tool is used by major global brands such as Compass Group, IKEA, AccorHotels, Costa Cruises, ISS, IHG, Marriott – and many more. Together, chef and teams using Winnow are saving $21 million every year.

Marc Zornes, Winnow Co-Founder said: “Our partnership with ForPurposeCo as OzHarvest’s innovation arm, allows us to tap into a waste-conscious market with partners who share our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 to halve global food waste by 2030”.

One-third of all food produced is lost or wasted every year. The Australian Government estimates that over 5 million tonnes of food ends up as landfill, and almost half of it is generated by the hospitality sector. Food waste costs the Australian economy around $20 billion each year.

Ronni Kahn, Chief Visionary of ForPurposeCo. and CEO & Founder of OzHarvest believes that multiple solutions are required to tackle this enormous global issue, requiring the efforts of many businesses, government and individuals. “While OzHarvest continues to lead the way in saving food waste and providing quality rescued food to vulnerable people, we started ForPurposeCo. to look at other global solutions out there that can drive positive change,” Kahn said.

“Through this important partnership, ForPurposeCo. is now able to promote and provide Winnow’s technology within the Australian and New Zealand market. This initiative will complement OzHarvest’s food rescue activity.

At Winnow, we are on a mission to connect the commercial kitchen, create a movement of chefs and inspire others to see that food is too valuable to waste. We are looking forward to join forces with ForPorposeCo and OzHarvest, to reduce food waste in Australia and New Zealand’s hospitality and foodservice sector.
