How Armani Hotel Dubai is saving 117,000 meals annually by reducing food waste

With the help of Winnow’s technology, the hotel reduced food waste by 47%. This has also positively impacted the hotel’s bottom line: the estimated yearly savings are AED 148,000.

In 2017, Armani Hotel Dubai was awarded the prestigious Green Globe Certification underlining its commitment to be a socially and environmentally responsible hotel operator. Advancing its sustainability initiatives, the luxury hotel, located in the iconic Burj Khalifa, has partnered with Winnow to limit the amount of food that is wasted. With the help of the technology, the hotel’s culinary team is now able to automatically measure what gets thrown away and receive actionable data that help chefs reduce overproduction. As a result, the hotel is preventing 117,000 meals annually from being thrown away.

The Armani Hotel Dubai prioritised tackling food waste in line with the UAE’s commitment to cut food waste by 50% by 2030. The pledge challenges food businesses to to save 3 million meals by the end of 2020. The Armani hotel has a well-structured programme that includes composting and donating food to the UAE Food Bank in addition to using Winnow’s technology.

Armani Hotel Dubai is one of the 12 Emaar properties to have started using Winnow, leveraging data analytics to reduce food waste. The Emaar teams have successfully cut food waste and saved over AED1.5 million annually.
